World Health Day observed in Shillong

SHILLONG: “There is a need for preventive measures in rural areas while the health scenario in the rural areas has improved than in the previous years,” said JB Rani, Additional DMHO of East Khasi Hills

 She was speaking to reporters after participating in the Health rally on account of World Health Day which is usually observed on April 7 but here it was observed on April 8.

The Health rally was organized by the District Health Society, National Health Mission, East Khasi Hills.

“Preventive measures are necessary in rural areas such as administering immunization, first aid treatments,” she told a group of reporters.

She informed that over 52 Public Health Centers (PHCs) are functional in the District and the sub-centers are also functional while district health department is mooting to come up with more wellness centers.

Informing that only East Khasi Hills District is still continuing with the Measles-Rubella campaign (MR campaign), she said the people were not coming forward to take the immunization as done in other districts.

“Other districts in Meghalaya have already attained the 95 per cent. We want to attain the 95 per cent to ensure there is immunity in the community,” she said adding the community must come cooperate with the Health Department to bring about a wholesome health.

Few schools participated in the programme along with nurses students.
