SHILLONG: The amicus curiae, SP Mahanta, who is dealing with a PIL on drugs abuse, has filed a second report that reveals that the drug menace is serious.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice HS Thangkhiew heard the matter on Monday and said, “We are not inclined to comment at this stage or to pass direction based on the report until a comprehensive response is filed by the state, two weeks’ time as sought is granted but suffice it to say that the authorities shall take all necessary measures so as to ensure that the de-addiction centres work positively for the betterment of the drug addicts admitted there for drug addiction and will also take some revolutionary steps so as to arrest the trend of narcotic drugs use and supply.”
According to the court, the report of the amicus curiae is an eye opener and a great step in the right direction.
The matter will come up for hearing again on April 26.
