SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills is still lagging behind other districts in Measles-Rubella vaccination coverage, a senior health official said on Monday.
Additional District Medical and Health Officer JB Rani said East Khasi Hills is still continuing with the vaccination campaign but people are not coming forward.
“Other districts in Meghalaya have already attained 95 per cent coverage. We also want to attain 95 per cent to ensure that all children are immunised,” she said, adding that the community must cooperate with the Health Department.
Rani was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of World Health Day on Monday. She stressed the need for preventive healthcare measures, like immunization and first-aid, in rural areas.
East Khasi Hills has over 52 primary health centres and several sub-centres. The district health office is planning to introduce more wellness centres.
The programme was attended by school and nursing students. They rallied from Dinam Hall in Jaiaw till U Tirot Sing Syiem Indoor Stadium in Lachumiere. The health rally was organised by the District Health Society, National Health Mission.
