SHILLONG: Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor has recommended the Election Commission of India to issue caution notice to Cabinet Minister AL Hek for violating the model code of conduct.
Kharkongor, on receipt of the official report on the matter, said on Monday that though the violation is of minor nature, the matter has been referred to ECI “with a recommendation to issue caution notice to the concerned political functionary to henceforth strictly refrain from use of any government paraphernalia during political campaign, which constitutes a violation of MCC and not in keeping with the spirit of MCC even if the present violation is minor in nature”.
The chief electoral officer said he received a report from the returning officer based on the report of the West Jaintia Hills district election officer, on the case pertaining to the model code of conduct violation by Hek on the basis of reports from police and sector officials.
It was confirmed through reports that the government vehicle was present at the site of political campaigning, the official said.
Hek, however, denied the use of official vehicle for campaigning and stated that his presence near the vehicle was for obtaining medicines.
