SHILLONG: While there has been alleged violation of human rights by the Chinese authorities against Tibet, the home minister of  Tibetan government-in-exile,  Gyari Dolma on Tuesday stated that they would prefer a non-violent agitation to free Tibet.

Speaking to media persons after meeting the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope here in the city on Tuesday, Gyari Dolma asserted that there is a growing frustration among the Tibetan youths which is compelling them to adopt the extreme steps of self- immolation.

“We never advocate violent agitations and India is our example as it had fought and attained freedom through non violent means,” she said while speaking to media persons here

During her meeting with the Speaker, Dolma also discussed the issues concerning the Tibetan refugees besides she also apprised the speaker about the problems being faced by the Tibetan refugees settled in Shillong

In her meeting, she also said that while in other states, the foreigners’ registration certificates will be sufficient to obtain LPG connections and other requirements; Meghalaya does not accept this document.

It may be mentioned that a 27 year old youth  Jamphel Yeshi had set him  himself on fire in Delhi  on Monday in protest against  visit of  Chinese President Hu Jintao  to India.

The Home minister also stated that violent agitations including self immolation cannot be justified, but it needs to be understood as a sign of frustration of Tibetan youths.

Reacting to a query about the visit of Chinese president to Delhi, Dolma said that while the delegation of Tibetan refugees wanted to meet the President, he never expressed the desire to reciprocate the intentions of the refugees.

We do have concerns over the delay in finding solution to the problem by the government in Beijing”, she said.

On China accusing their spiritual leader  Dalai Lama following Nazi racial policy,  Dolma said it was unfortunate and described the comments of  China as  ‘monstrous’

The China run website recently accused Dalai Lama for spreading Nazi ideology and inciting Tibetan refugees for self-immolation.

As per Dolma, the Tibetan refugees are ready to accept the solution of a genuine autonomy and for this, people are ready to sit across the negotiating table of China for the political solution.
