TURA: The final polling percentage in the re-poll on Monday at Konachar polling station of Selsella Assembly constituency in West Garo Hills for both the Tura Lok Sabha seat and the assembly by-poll has been officially pegged at 93 per cent with 14 less votes than the April 11 election.
Monday’s re-poll took place due to a mix-up of the EVMs meant for the Lok Sabha election and the Assembly by-poll.
There were two EVMs at the booth and the presiding officer there connected the ballot unit meant for the Lok Sabha election with the control unit of the Selsella by-poll while the control unit of the Lok Sabha seat was connected to the ballot unit for the by-poll leading to cancellation and re-polling.
Out of a total of 712 eligible voters under Konachar polling station, 665 cast their ballot for the Lok Sabha and 663 for the assembly by-poll registering a drop of 14 votes from the April 11 election when 668 voted for Lok Sabha and 674 for assembly by-poll.
Earlier, as polls opened in the morning a large number of voters turned up at the polling station to cast their vote as polling percentage touched 42 as early as 11 in the morning. By 1 pm the polling percentage had risen to 66 as more voters turned up to exercise their franchise. The final tally was pegged at 93 per cent.
