SHILLONG: The process to get the land from the PWD at Barik, in the city is still on as the Urban Affairs department intends to construct a parking lot, office com-plex and skywalk in the area.
Urban Affairs Minister, Hamlet Dohling said the department will have to get the land from the PWD for the projects of parking lot, office complex and skywalk which will be taken up under the Smart City project.
He said the process is on to get the land from the PWD
Right now, the land houses the office of the PWD.
Earlier, the State Planning Board had advocated the idea to develop the PWD office at Barik point into a multi-level parking lot to ease perennial traffic congestion on city roads.
The multi-level parking lot is expected to be of great help since many schools like All Saints, Pine Mount, Step by Step are located nearby and all the parents who come to drop and  pick up their wards, would not be allowed to park their vehicles anywhere but at the proposed parking lot.
