Bandh affects life in Kokrajhar
KOKRAJHAR(Assam): The 12-hour Assam bandh called by Non-Bodo Surakha Samity on Thursday affected normal life in Kokrajhar district of lower Assam.
All shops and business establishments remained closed during the bandh period. Vehicles remained off the road.
No any untoward incident has been reported till filing of this report. However, the bandh failed to have any response in other parts of Assam. (PTI)
Hand grenade found in hospital complex
IMPHAL:A powerful hand grenade was found in the complex of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) hospital under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district Thursday afternoon, official sources said.
The bomb was kept by the two unidentified militants at the newly constructed area of RIMS. A construction worker informed the police about the grenade, the sources said adding it was removed from the spot by the bomb squad of the police. (PTI)
Apok stresses on sex education
KOHIMA:Congress MLA C Apok Jamir has said time has come to discuss sex education even in the family and that society should be more open to fight the menace of HIV and AIDS.
Speaking as the guest speaker at one-day Advocacy Programme on HIV and AIDS, organised by Care and Support Society of Mokokchung on Wednesday , Jamir said one of the biggest challenges today was to fight the menace of HIV and AIDS for which the responsibility lied in the family and the individuals.(UNI)
Tripura declared ‘malaria-prone’
AGARTALA: Tripura has been declared malaria prone following the detection of 346 positive cases of Plasmodium Falciparum (PF) in the state in the last one month, official sources said on Thursday.
Health minister Tapan Chakraborty said that medical experts have advised the state government to use second generation drugs instead of traditional medicines to prevent malaria.(PTI)
