TURA: Eight student and social organizations from Garo Hills joined the daylong ‘Black Flag Day’ protest in the state by putting up banners in different corners of Tura to support the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit.
The CoMSO launched the daylong protest on Tuesday in different parts of the state.
The organizations have been protesting against the state government for not fulfilling one of their key demands- which is on the ILP.
“Our main objective of the program is protest against the Meghalaya Government for not fulfilling their promises to insert the proviso of ILP in ‘The Meghalaya Visitors and Residents’ Safety and Security Act, 2016 by way of Amendment in the last Assembly Session,” says CoMSO vice chairman Nikman Marak.
He added that the demand is of utmost importance to safeguard the rights and interests of the indigenous people of Meghalaya and further warned of agitation to fulfill this demand.
