Dr Manomohan Singh, wife cast vote in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Former Prime Minister and Congress leader, Dr Manmohan Singh and his wife Gurcharan Kaur cast their votes at the polling station in Dispur Government Higher Secondary School under Guwahati Parliamentary Constituency here on Tuesday.

Dr Singh who was first elected to Rajya Sabha from Assam in 1991, is registered as a resident of Nandanpur, Sarumotoria at Dispur locality here. He has a rented house in the locality at the premises of former Assam chief minister, Late Hiteswar Saikia.

The voter serial numbers of Dr Singh and his wife  at the polling station is 623 and 624 respectively. The couple arrived in Guwahati airport at 2 pm from New Delhi and cast their votes at 2.55 pm.

On his arrival at the polling station under heavy security cover, Dr Singh was welcomed by Congress candidate of Guwahati Lok Sabha Constituency, Bobita Sharma who felicitated the former Prime Minister with a ‘Gamocha’.

After casting their votes, Dr Singh and his wife went to their rented house to spend some time with the family of land lady Dr Hemoprova Saikia (widow of late Hiteswar Saikia), a senior Congress leader and former minister. He also interacted with Congress MLA, Debabrata Saikia,  son of late Hiteswar Saikia.
