City school crosses 50-year milestone

SHILLONG: Mawprem Modern Higher Secondary School, Shillong, on Saturday kicked-off its three-month long Golden Jubilee celebrations with a colourful inaugural function on the school premises.
The function was graced by former pupil of the school and sitting KHADC MDC Paul Lyngdoh as the chief guest and RB Rynjah, former Rangbah Shnong of Mawprem, as the guest of honour.
The function witnessed participation of retired teachers of the school, prominent citizens of Mawprem and its neighbourhood, members of the school alumni association, teachers, students and others.
A special tribute was paid by all present to founder of the school, Late CN Joshi. Retired and former teachers of the school who have left for their heavenly abode were all remembered on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh congratulated the school on reaching a historic milestone. He stressed on bettering the education system so that every student who passes out of the school becomes a gift for the society.
The chief guest also launched the school website www.mmhss.edu.in on the occasion.
As part of its golden jubilee celebrations, the school will organise a series of inter-school literary competitions like Quiz, debate, essay writing and painting competitions in May and June.
The highlight of the celebrations will be a seminar on tourism promotion on May 24 at the State Convention Centre. Students of various schools are expected to participate in the competitions and the seminar.
A souvenir highlighting the school’s journey will also be brought out.
The concluding function will be held at U Soso Tham Auditorium on July 6.
