SHILLONG: The Congress MDCs have alleged that the guidelines of the NITI Aayog have been violated by the Executive Committee (EC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) by pointing to the construction of a resort at Kalong Bridge, Umiam for tourism purpose which does not fall within the purview of the guidelines.
Congress spokesperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, Ronnie Lyngdoh said the guidelines say the grants are intended to be used to support and strengthen the delivery of basic civic services including water supply, sanitation, storm water drainage, maintenance of community assets, roads, footpaths, street lighting, burial and cremation grounds and subjects as assigned by the state government through legislation.
“Any project the district council is undertaking which is outside the purview of the guideline, has already violated the guidelines of the NITI,” Lyngdoh said.
In this connection, the Congress MDCs have decided to write to the NITI Aayog pointing out that the guidelines have been flouted.
KHADC CEM Teiñwell Dkhar said there are additional works that the District Council can take up and added that the existing construction is progressing but it is yet to be completed as there is a need for additional construction.
