NEW DELHI: The ongoing case on coal mining ban in Meghalaya which came up for hearing in the Supreme Court on Wednesday, will resume on Thursday since the arguments and counter arguments remained inconclusive.
Last month, the apex court had issued notice to the National Green Tribunal on its order imposing one hundred crore rupees fine on the State Government in connection with the coal mining ban case. The next date of hearing was fixed for Wednesday.
Advocate General, Amit Kumar and State Counsel Ranjan Mukherjee, who were present in the court, submitted that the NGT order is bad in law on a number of grounds and it should be set aside.
The bench had earlier said that it will hear the case finally this month and all applications relating to this matter will also come up for hearing on the same day.
The apex court will be hearing a total of five petitions regarding the ban on coal.
Sources said that the court had already heard the main petition of Lber Laloo vs Dima Hasao Students Union.
While one government petition was heard on Wednesday, the other three petitions of State Coordination Committee, Hima Nongstoin and GHADC will also come up for hearing on Thursday.
Sources also informed that the apex court is likely to pass an order on the plea of the state government to allow transportation of the already extracted coal.
Lber Laloo had petitioned the court for lifting the ban on coal mining by the National Green Tribunal.
