Awareness prog on disaster management

 NONGSTOIN: With a view to sensitize people on Disaster Management, a mass awareness programme was organized by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, Mawkyrwat on Thursday at Mawthawpdah village where school students and public including village myntri and village headmen participated.

Speaking as resource persons, the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Mawkyrwat Civil Sub-Division A.Nongbri MCS and the Block Nodal Officer of Disaster Management Mawkyrwat C&RD Block B.Kharkongor, stressed on the importance of having school and village disaster management plans which are part of preparedness and safety measures under Disaster Management.

Highlighting on the role of media in Disaster Management, Nongbri asserted that media needs to be cautious while publishing news items during disaster adding that only factual and accurate information need to be flashed so that people do not panic in such situation.

He also stressed that media can be partners in Disaster Management by disseminating accurate and factual information during response, relief and rehabilitation operation.

Participating as resource person, Kharkongor briefly explained about pre disaster on how losses are minimized when disaster actually strikes adding that during disaster victims are met to alleviate and minimize the suffering. He also spoke at length about Disaster risk reduction and mitigation
