SHILLONG: Velammal Vidyalaya, Alapakkam, Chennai, felicitated Gomathi Marimuthu for winning a gold medal at the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships. Marimuthu, who hails from Tiruchirappalli District, was given a warm welcome by the school and presented with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh. The sports achievers of the school were also honoured on stage by the ‘Golden Girl’ with medals and certificates. Marimuthu also delivered a speech and encouraged the students to aspire and shine in all areas of their lives.
