SHILLONG: The death of Dismarlin Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi allegedly at the hands of some truck drivers on Wednesday has triggered rage among the people of the state who have demanded that the culprits be arrested at the earliest.
Several organisations have condemned the killing of the home guard personnel while on duty on the FCI premises in Khanapara, Ri Bhoi.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Mawlai formed in this connection has warned to not allow trucks of the Assam-based company to enter Meghalaya till its demand is met.
Four drivers belonging to Saikia Company were allegedly involved in assaulting Lyngkhoi resulting in his death. The deceased was a resident of Mawlai Mawroh and posted at the FCI warehouse.
Condemning the incident, the JAC in a statement demanded that a family member of the deceased be given appointment besides compensation from the company as he was the sole bread winner of the family with five children with the youngest being only three months old.
The JAC was formed on Friday in a meeting convened by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawlai circle at Community Hall Mawlai Mawroh to condemn Lyngdoh’s death.
The JAC will also wear black ribbons and carry black flags on his funeral at Mawlai Mawroh on Saturday.
The committee will again call for a meeting on Monday to decide on the date and time to hold a rally to protest the killing of Lyngdoh.
The Joint Action Committee has urged the police to nab the culprits at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the FKJGP central body led by its general secretary Dundee Cliff Khongsit met the officials of FCI Regional, Shillong on Friday with a request to take the matter seriously.
In addition, the organisation demanded that the FCI should stop transporting commodities using the trucks of the particular company unless the culprits are handed over to the police.
