TURA: South Garo Hills protest group Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has demanded that ongoing construction of national highway 62 must be speeded up and warned of protests unless the state PWD and the construction firm begin work on a stretch that has been left abandoned for months.
The organization pointed out that a major portion of the ongoing repair of NH-62 highway which connects Baghmara in South Garo Hills to Dalu in West Garo Hills has been lying without any repairs whereas other areas have had some work done.
The organization mentioned that the stretch from Cherengpara to Gasuapara in the border belt has not witnessed any form of construction activity and warned that unless work is started within the next week the organization would be compelled to protest.
The ADE organization mentioned that portions of the highway from Baghmara to Eringgre, Sibbari to Dumnikura have had black topping of the road tarmac done while in the Dimapara to Cherengpara sector only stone chips have been laid showing the delay in the construction work. With the monsoon season just weeks away, the organization is sceptic of much progress being made unless work is taken up on a war footing in the coming days and weeks.
