SHILLONG: With the result of the Lok Sabha polls pending, blame game seems to be the order of the day in Meghalaya.
Uncertainly over the poll outcome is one reason which compels the parties to doubt about the loyalty of the coalition partners.
There were media reports that some MLAs from NPP did not campaign for the MDA nominee Jemino Mawthoh and instead preferred Vincent Pala though the NPP leaders were quick to deny it.
However, sources said that unlike Garo Hills where the NPP MLAs and MDCs worked hard for the NPP candidate Agatha Sangma, the same efforts were not shown by the coalition partners in Khasi-Jaintia-Ri Bhoi areas for the common candidate Mawthoh.
Recently, Cabinet Minister and UDP MLA Kyrmen Shylla said in West and East Jaintia Hills, the Congress candidate Vincent Pala will have an edge.
There are seven Assembly segments in Jaintia Hills and both the UDP and the NPP share three seats each and the Congress has only one MLA.
A few days ago, the UDP leaders from Khatarshnong, Sohra had revealed that PDF MLA Gavin Mylliem did not support the MDA candidate.
The UDP leader from Khatarshnong, Riskhem Prang had alleged that the MLA did not ask his supporters to extend support to Mawthoh and instead left it for the voters to make a decision.
Prang also said the legislator had secretly supported Pala, pointing out that the legislator did not even attend public meetings to drum up support for Mawthoh.
There were no reports from Garo Hills as to whether the NPP members supported the Congress candidate Mukul Sangma or vice versa.
Compared to 2014 Lok Sabha Polls, Pala did not face any opposition from within the party this time.
In the 2014 elections, some Congress legislators did not support Pala citing that in 2013 Assembly polls Pala did not support some official candidates of the party which, however, was denied by the MP in the past.
