Wild elephant roams around in heart of Guwahati

Guwahati:  A wild elephant that lost its ways into the heart of Guwahati city created panic among city residents for about seven hours on Tuesday before forest officials managed to tranquilise it at Sri Nagar locality besides G S Road late in the evening. However, efforts were still on to transport the tranquilised tusker to Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary near the city.

Forest officials suspected that the wild elephant had entered the city from Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary early in the morning. It was first spotted roaming around at Borbari area in the city. It then came to Hangerabari area from there it went to Ganeshguri and walked along the busy  G S Road towards Christianbasti creating panic among the city residents and bringing the vehicular traffic to a grinding halt for hours.

The elephant , however, did not cause damage to any life and property in the city.
