One killed in landslide

NONGPOH, One youth engaged in extraction of sand from a river died on the spot while four of his colleagues had a miraculous escape in an incident of landslide which occurred at Banbudai village in Ri Bhoi District.

As per information from the headman of Banbudai village, BP Syiem, the incident happened on the Thursday afternoon while the five youths were busy in extraction of sand from a river situated nearby the village. Unfortunately, one of the youths was covered under the debris of the landslide and died on the spot while the four others had a miraculous escape from the tragedy.

The deceased has been identified as Donboklang Laloo, and the four others as Juban Syiem, Staily Rani, Ristowel Rynshon and Pyndaplang Syiem, all hailing from Banbudai village.

It was also informed that the formal enquiry has been conducted by the Umsning Police Outpost on the incident and the post mortem examination was later exempted after the plea of the family of the deceased had been approved by the District Magistrate.
