NONGSTOIN: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Sunday issued ‘quit notice’ to all the Nepali residents of West Khasi Hills district.

HANM president Arphul Kharbani informed media persons on Sunday about their decision saying that the Nepali population has to quit West Khasi Hills starting from Monday.

Kharbani also warned that any one found violating the quit notice would be dealt with firmly, even as he urged the local residents of West Khasi Hills not to provide shelter or any other help to the Nepali people.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Meghalaya DGP N Ramachandran said that he was unaware of the incident.

He however made it clear that no one has the right to issue quit notices, even as he asserted that police would monitor the situation and take necessary action against those who take the law into their own hands.
