SHILLONG: Congress MDC and Leader of Opposition in the KHADC Lamphrang Blah has said the CEM, Teinwell Dkhar, should have stepped down since he has lost the support of the MDCs and the Executive Committee (EC) has been reduced to a minority.
From a strength of 19 MDCs, the EC of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has been reduced to 13 after 6 MDCs withdrew support to the ruling coalition.
Asked whether the Congress, which has 10 MDCs, will welcome the disgruntled MDCs, he said a meeting of the party MDCs will be held to discuss the matter.
“So far, there has been no feedback from the MDCs”, he said.
He also asserted that the Congress is not behind the rumblings in the KHADC and added that such allegations are misleading as it is the internal matter of United Democratic Alliance.
No full stop, only comma
Meanwhile, secretary of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, said the regional party will exercise caution with regard to allying with the Congress.
He was responding to a query on whether the HSPDP will work with the Congress in the backdrop of the bickering in the KHADC.
“In politics, there is no full stop, there is only a comma. If such a situation arises, we will see but for now we are intact. We will decide together. But now there is no demand as such. We want the set up as it is”, Tongkhar said.
He said the same structure of coalition prevailing in the state government should be followed in the district council and misunderstandings should be resolved.
The Congress is in the Opposition both in the state Assembly and the district council.
Lyngdoh said, “If a situation arises where we have to consider other alternatives, we will look into it.”
