St. Anthony’s tops Science, BBS bags Commerce

SHILLONG/TURA: City’s premier educational institute St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School all but monopolised the lists of toppers of the HSSLC examination in Science and Commerce bagging eight and six positions respectively while B.B.S. College walked away with the top spot in Commerce.
The results were declared on Wednesday.
In Science, Debjanee Bhattacharjee of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School secured the first position while Bhanudaya Upadhaya of city’s B.B.S. College bagged the top slot in Commerce.
The overall pass percentage in Science was 71.07 while in Commerce it was 79.24 marking a fall from 2018.
Garo Hills managed to figure in the list of top ten in Science with Rahul Sen of Don Bosco HS School securing the 5th position. He, however, is no stranger to success having stood second in the SSLC Examination in 2017

In Science, apart from the eight positions grabbed by St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and the one by Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Tura others on the list were North Liberty HS School in Mookyrdoop-Jowai with two, St. Edmund’s HS School Shillong also with two and Seven Set Annexe HS School Shillong, KJP Synod Mihngi HS School, Jowai with one each.
In the Vocational stream, 16 out of 17 students cleared the examination with a pass percentage of 94.11.
Only one student secured first division.

District wise percentage: Science
Ri-Bhoi district with 91.67 per cent secured the highest pass percentage for the HSSLC Science examinations followed by East Khasi Hills district with 80.60. West Garo Hills was the lowest with 47.98.
Others were West Khasi Hills 74.49 per cent, East Garo Hills 59.07 per cent, South Garo Hills 66.67 per cent, South West Khasi Hills 50.62 per cent, West Jaintia Hills 67.79 per cent, East Jaintia Hills 65.63 per cent, North Garo Hills 45.59 per cent and South West Garo Hills 76.47 per cent.
However, it is worth mentioning that percentage varies in different districts because in some, like South West Garo Hills, only 17 students appeared for the tests of which 13 passed.
Likewise, in West Garo Hills, 694 students appeared in the science exams of which 333 were successful.
In the Science stream, female students outshone their male counterparts by just one per cent in the regular stream. Male pass percentage was 73.80 while for females it was 74.03.
District wise percentage: Commerce
The district wise percentage of pass in East Khasi Hills is 83.51 per cent, West Khasi Hills 84.29 per cent, Ri-Bhoi 87.65 per cent, West Garo Hills 46.12 per cent, East Garo Hills 94.74 per cent, South West Khasi Hills 71.43 per cent, West Jaintia Hills- 67.61 per cent, East Jaintia Hills 95 per cent and North Garo Hills- 86.67 per cent.
Shillong sweeps Commerce
As many as six different schools, all from Shillong, took away the top honours in Commerce with B.B.S. College bagging the top slot.
St. Anthony’s, once again, led with six positions.
St. Edmund’s, Shillong College HS Education, Seven Set Annexe and St. Mary’s also figured in the list.
