SHILLONG: There could be hope for additional health care facilities in the state capital with two private parties approaching the government to set up shop.
Talking to media persons on the inadequate number of hospitals in Shillong, Health Minister AL Hek informed that two private parties have already approached the state government to set up hospitals in Shillong.
“We are discussing the matter,” he said
Although it appears to be a flourishing city, Shillong woefully lacks in super specialty and private hospitals.
There are around 8-9 hospitals, including the Shillong Civil Hospital, NEIGRHMS and RP Chest Hospital.
The hospitals are thronged by a large number of people every day as most of the patients from rural areas come to Shillong in absence of any modern hospital there.
Just about a 100 kilometres away, Guwahati has a large number of private as well as government hospitals and many patients from Shillong and other parts of the state visit the Assam capital for their treatment.
