Sonowal not satisfied with quality of erosion protection work in Majuli island

GUWAHATI:  Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday visited the erosion hit Bhakat Chapori Village in Majuli district and inspected erosion protection work done with geo bags being implemented by the Brahmaputra Board and expressed displeasure over the quality of the project work.

The Chief Minister  having inspected the implementation work said that quality of work was not up to the mark. Having received a series of complaints, the state government also expressed its reservations and displeasure and only after that, the chairman of Brahmaputra Board Rajiv Yadav rushed to Majuli and took stock of the work. Chief Minister Sonowal said that the safety and security of the people were of paramount importance and under no circumstances, his government would tolerate any deviation of that.

Sonowal also stated that Brahmaputa Board would again undertake restoration work of the affected areas within two weeks after water level recedes in the affected areas. He also said that no slackness would be tolerated and the government would fix responsibilities.

He also said that the people of Majuli whole heartedly wanted to get rid of the scourge of erosion. So in tune with the expectations of the people of Majuli, government would never shy of taking any steps to serve the people. He also said that the engineers responsible for negligence of protection work of the erosion hit Bhakat Chapori Village would be dealt with sternly. He also said that Brahmaputra Board had been told to initiate actions against the erring engineers. He later held a meeting with the functionaries of the Brahmaputra Board where he had a threadbare discussion on the project work.
