5 Myanmar nationals held at Guwahati rly station

GUWAHATI: Sleuths of Railway Protection Force arrested five Myanmar nationals at Guwahati Railway Station while they were preparing to move to Delhi on Tuesday morning.

The group, which includes a woman, had come here from Manipur to board a train to the national capital.

They were apprehended by the RPF personnel from platform number 1 of the railway station here around 9am after they reportedly failed to produce authentic documents pertaining to their identity.

The arrested persons have been identified as Arofa, 24, Md. Zuber, 21, Kamal Hussain, 20, Md. Nurul Hakim, 19, and Md. Kalimulla, 19. They belong to Rakhine state, Myanmar.

They were later handed over to Government Railway Police (GRP) for follow up action and a case under Foreigners Act has been registered.

Confirming the development, GRP superintendant, Hemanta Kumar Das told The Shillong Times here that the five persons are being investigated and would be produced at the chief judicial magistrate’s court here on Wednesday.

Some smuggled items such as cigarettes, coffee, fruit packets, sweets, etc were recovered from their possession.
