Climate change awareness rally
SHILLONG:  A rally to create awareness about climate change will be organised by teenagers under the banner of Friday for Future here on May 24. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Joel Blah Kyndiah said, “It is all about youth to push for political action. Climate change is an issue, but it is not significantly addressed.” Kyndiah and his other friends appealed to all to join hands and participate in the rally while expressing concern that people of the state are oblivious to climate change. The group plans to submit a six-point resolution to the chief minister or to any other minister after the rally. They suggested declaring climate emergency in India as done in other countries. “We are not facing salubrious weather as in previous years,” Kyndiah said. The youngsters suggested people to use more of public transport and harvest rain water. Around five schools have been approached. The teenagers have requested people to sign up for the campaign through their page “Friday for future- Shillong” on Facebook and Instagram.
