TURA: The A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) has issued a general alert to the public of Garo Hills to be vigilant as large scale movement of petty traders who go ‘house calling’ to different villages and towns to sell their wares which opens opportunities for criminals to commit crime.
With reference to an incident that happened last week in the region where a woman patient was molested by a AYUSH doctor in SGH, the organisation alleged that outsiders have easy access to the village which gives rise to crime.
“The antecedents of outsiders need to be checked thoroughly and all the local development committees as well as youth clubs need to remain vigilant about the visits by door-to-door hawkers some of whom might take the opportunity to commit crime,” cautioned the organization.
The AYWO termed the visiting of outsiders in the village to sell wares as ‘illegal’ stating that Hawkers licence does not permit outsiders to visit homes.
With high mobility of traders the district is deprived of revenue and some take the opportunity to commit heinous crime, it stated.
