GUWAHATI: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ripun Bora has said that going by the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls, the anti-Citizenship Amendment Bill movement has had “no effect” on the people.

“Going by outcome which has gone against his party, it appears that the CAB has not had any effect on the electorate,” Bora said, referring to the state-wide protests by various groups against the legislation in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress had pledged not to bring CAB if it came to power while BJP had promised to bring the legislation.

The Assam PCC president however accepted his party’s defeat, saying, “I accept the verdict with all humility and take moral responsibility for the dismal performance.”

“While we are poised to bag three seats this time, like in 2014, on the flip side, we have registered a bigger voting percentage compared to five years back,” Bora said.

However, the state Congress president said that he was still apprehensive on the functioning of the electronic voting machines.

“I still have my doubts on the credibility of the functioning of EVMs,” he added.
