SHILLONG/TURA: Opposition leader Mukul Sangma, who lost to NPP’s Agatha Sangma in Tura parliamentary constituency, feels that there should have been some more advance planning as far as fielding candidate in the constituency was concerned.
Talking to The Shillong Times on phone, Mukul admitted that there was lot of dilemma in candidature and he was not prepared to be a candidate mentally but subsequently he decided to contest keeping in mind the larger interest of the party and responding to the call of the duty.
He, however, added that the party respects the mandate of the people, adding he would continue to serve the people as politicians irrespective of whatever positions they hold have commitment to people.
When asked about the poor performance of the party in the country, Sangma said that party would conduct necessary introspection and an analysis would be done to find out what went wrong.
“We see that people probably wanted to repose the same mandate which was given in 2014 despite issues and they wanted to give more time to the present leadership,” Sangma said adding that people probably also wanted a power centre which can be more coherent and a strong conglomeration of political parties.
Earlier, he thanked the friends of Congress who had aligned with Congress and also congratulated the winners from both the Shillong and Tura seat.
