Tripura Cong to move SC over poll violence

GUWAHATI: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to file a case in Supreme Court against the Election Commission of India and the state government for the alleged failure to control the law and order during elections.
TPCC has claimed that 137 party workers were injured and several houses, shops and vehicles were damaged in the violence during the elections.
“We are going to file a case in Supreme Court regarding the faikure of the ECI and the state government to arrest the untoward incidents during the polls. Two among the 137 have been grievously injured, 21 houses have been gutted and looted, eight small shops burnt while eight four-wheelers and eight two-wheelers have been damaged,” TPCC vice-president, Tapas Dey told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
Dey further said that TPCC would seek compensation from the state government for the damages incurred in the violence. “We have asked our district and block committees to assess the damage to property in this regard,” he said.
Meanwhile, TPCC president, Pradyot Manikya Debbarma has appealed to senior party leaders and former party presidents to donate to the party relief fund.
“In the aftermath of violence in Tripura and so much of loss of property I am personally pledging Rs 10,000,00 (Rupees 10 lakh) ) to the relief fund for the Congress workers who have suffered serious injuries or other damages in terms of property. I am appealing that other former presidents and senior leaders do the same. Many times we simply talk but never actually do anything for the Congress worker who has worked for us on the ground during elections. Let me remind everyone, actions speak louder than words. I am donating my bit, I suggest that you also come forward and do yours,” Debbarma wrote on Facebook.
