GUWAHATI: Forest guards manning Kaziranga National Park (KNP) will now have insurance cover, thanks to an initiative of Numaligarh Refinery Limited.
As part of its corporate social responsibility, NRL has adopted a definitive step to secure as many as 1129 forest staff whose lives are often fraught with danger in the form of attacks by animals and poachers at the national park.
The company has facilitated group insurance for the forest staff with National Insurance Company.
The Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy was handed over to Kaziranga National Park director, P Sivakumar by NRL managing director, S.K Barua at the park on Sunday.
The policy will provide an insured sum of Rs 5 lakh per insured person/ nominee for death or bodily injury resulting solely and directly from accident caused by external violent and visible means.
Weekly benefit up to Rs 5,000 for maximum 104 weeks has also been provided for temporary disablement. The policy, initiated by NRL, will be effective from April 1, 2019 for a year initially, which will be extended on a yearly basis.
“NRL is a success story in business enterprise while KNP is one in conservation efforts of wildlife. With both entities working and complementing each other, greater things could be achieved,” KNP director, Sivasakar said.
NRL managing director, Barua in his address said since its very inception, the oil company’s identity has been entwined with KNP, being adjacent to each other in location. He hoped to see more such collaborations in future.
