New CJ to start with state tour

SHILLONG: The new Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal has said that he would like to understand the difficulties of Meghalaya and try to solve it after undertaking a tour of the state.
Speaking to newsmen after being sworn as the new chief justice, Mittal said that he would like to visit all the districts and see how things are functioning.
“I would like to get first hand information for myself and if anything is required, I would like to make improvements in the system,” he said.
Earlier, Mittal was sworn in by Governor Tathagata Roy.
The President of India has recently appointed Mittal as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya after the Supreme Court Collegium on April 8 recommended his name and he replaced Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, who has attained the age of superannuation this month.
Born on September 30, 1958 at Chandigarh, Justice Mittal passed B.Com. (Hons.) from Sri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University in 1977 and did LLB from Faculty of Law, Delhi University in 1980.
He was elevated to the Bench of High Court of Punjab and Haryana on January 9, 2004 and remained as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Punjab and Haryana with effect from May 4, 2018 to June 2.
