VDP units awarded for helping cops

JOWAI: With the shortage of manpower in the Police department in both East and West Jaintia Hills, the Village Defense Party (VDP) have been helping the police to catch culprits in their respective villages.
To recognise their contribution, the office of the Superintendent of Police in West Jaintia Hills awarded them with certificates of appreciation and cash. The VDP members have been helping the police to curb crime in their districts.
WJH Superintendent of Police, Lakador Syiem informed that all VDPs in the district are working hand in hand with the police to help keep law and order in the district. “They help us in many ways, so they deserve to be awarded, the SP said.
Syiem informed that there are 276 registered VDPs units in the district and more than 100 are yet to be registered.
Lathis, boots, blankets, torch lights and umbrella were also given to them so they can use during their duty, the SP added.
The Headman of Pynthor-Langtein, Army Lypon who is also a VDP member said, “We should help the police and should not take law into our own hands.”
Ten VDPs unit from Shnong Mynso B, Madankynsaw, Lad-Mukhla, Jong-U-Shen unit in the Indo-Bangla Border under Muktapur area, Shnongpdeng, Dongmihsngi, Jowai, Amlarem, Myrjai, Sanaro and Priang were awarded.
