Guwahati: A woman was attacked and killed by a leopard on Tuesday in the third incident of man-animal conflict in three days in Assam’s Jorhat district, official sources said.

A full-grown male leopard attacked a tea garden labourer in Kakojan tea estate in Titabor area of the town and injured her in the neck.

The woman, identified as Kamali Goala, was rushed to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital but she died on the way.

A leopard, who had injured a person in Khakandaguri village in Dergaon of adjoining Golaghat district, was attacked by the villagers, killed and subsequently hanged on Monday.

Earlier on April 7, a full-grown leopard was lynched and its meat distributed among the locals in Lempasapori area in Dergaon after it injured two youths.

Four leopards have been killed so far with two others killed in Guwahati and Rangiya last month.

Meanwhile, the three-member committee formed to probe the recent onset of man-animal conflict today submitted its report to Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain.

The committee, headed by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Suresh Chand, examined the causes behind the recent spurt in man-animal conflict and highlighted certain specific recommendations to mitigate the problem. (PTI)
