Road safety week observed in Jowai

 JOWAI: With a view to curb increasing road accidents in Jaintia Hills district, the Office of the District Transport Office observed a two-day road safety week on the theme, ‘Accidents bring tears, safety brings cheers’ on Monday and Tuesday.

On Tuesday, road safety week was observed at Bosco Pnar attended by Traffic In charge, M Marboh, Brother Paskal of Bosco Pnar Institute, Dr. MS Nongpluh of Jowai Civil Hospital, Taxi Owners’ Association President, S Kma besides staff of the District Transport Office and Drivers.

The Jaintia Hills District Transport Officer, C Khonglam while chairing the program highlighted on safe driving and prevention of motor accidents.

“The main causes of road accidents are over-speeding, overtaking, driving under the influence of alcohol beside any other intoxicated substances”, Khonglam said.

“Though accidents cannot be avoided but it can be prevented and in order to prevent road accident pre-caution measures should be taken firmly”, he added.

Traffic In Charge, Jowai Traffic Police, Sub-inspector, M Marboh who also spoke on the occasion highlighted on various traffics rules and discipline driving. He also elaborated on the road signs and mandatory signals.

Eye testing camp for drivers was also conducted by Dr. MS Nanghulo.
