Work on entry-exit point at Mendipathar to begin in two weeks

SHILLONG: Work on the entry and exit point cum facilitation centre at Mendipathar Railway station in Garo Hills will begin within one-two weeks.

North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, SC Sadhu on Monday said that the project was in final stages implementation and all the modalities for the project had been decided.

Informing that the entry and exit point cum facilitation centre will be constructed on the plot of a land of the Railways, he added that even now a general routine checking was done by Infiltration Department as and when the train comes and leave the station.

However, once the entry and exit point cum facilitation centre is completed, a dedicated team of Tourism, Police, District Administration and other department will ensure the checking of the people, adding the exit of the people from the railway station will be only through one way and people can be easily scrutinized there.

Government is confident that the setting up of the entry and exit points in different parts of the state would boost the confidence of the NGOs and public about their concern on influx.

At present, only one train leaves the station for Guwahati every morning and it comes back same day night.

It is learnt that on an average, around 300-400 people from Garo Hills uses the train, adding the Railways have assured that the frequency on the station would be increased once the number of passengers increased.

In addition, there have been talks to extend the railway line from Mendipathar in Garo Hills till Dalu.
