SHILLONG: The NPP which managed to beat the Congress in Tura constituency, is of the firm view that the Congress is losing its grip in the plains of Garo Hills which was once considered as a strong bastion for them.
Reaffirming their political dominance and citing depletion of the opposition Congress in the state, NPP MLA from Phulbari, SG Estamur Mominin on Monday said the Congress is losing its ground in the plains of the Garo Hills which is an important area that has around 60-70,000 votes.
Stating that the votes from the plains also ensured a win for the NPP in Tura, he said the party candidate won by a margin of over 63,000 votes and if the minority community would not have voted for the NPP, the seat would have gone to the Congress.
Mominin recalled since the time when late PA Sangma left the Congress,the NPP had won only the Phulbari seat be it the Council or Assembly elections.
“This time the scenario has totally changed. In Rajabala, Tikrikilla and Selsella we got good votes and the Congress is really losing its ground,” he said.
As far as the mandate is concerned, he expressed his happiness that the people have reposed their faith in NPP.
