Plantation and cleaning drive across Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: Localities in Nongstoin town took part in cleaning drive and tree plantation on the account of World Environment Day on Wednesday.
The celebrations started at 7 am where villagers from every corner in Nongstoin conducted a cleaning drive at Nondein and Nonbah river, Nongstoin market and every village in Nongstoin town.
“A total number of more than 3-lakh tree saplings was planted in West Khasi Hills” T Lyngwa IAS, Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills said.
A formal function was also held at Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng Dorbar hall which was conducted by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills and the office of Syiem ka Hima Nongstoin.
Post function, more than 5,000 saplings were planted in Mawsmai, the waste disposal area owned by Solid Liquid Resource Management.
T Lyngwa told The Shillong Times that celebration this year is a huge success where people from every corner took part by doing something for the greater future.
