Shillong: A day after Meghalaya Police issued a week’s ultimatum to GNLA to end violence and lay down arms, the militant outfit retaliated, warning that it would attack police outposts and target non-indigenous people in Garo Hills if the security forces went ahead with their plan of attacking their camps.
In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, GNLA political secretary, Bikdot Nikjang Marak, said, “If the government and the police go ahead with their plans then similar action against non-indigenous people in Garo Hills will be initiated by us.”
The GNLA also threatened that if their camps are attacked then they would retaliate by attacking police outposts.
The GNLA further warned that if the government continues to deploy more Central security forces including the CRPF and the BSF to hunt for their cadres, the militant outfit will not hesitate to attack non-indigenous people residing in Garo Hills.
Concerned over the spurt in violence, Meghalaya DGP, N Ramachandran had on Tuesday issued an ultimatum to the GNLA cadres to surrender within a week or face strong action. He had also warned that if the cadres do not surrender, then police would attack and destroy all GNLA camps.
