Lakhimpur: Forest personnel in Assam were today attacked by armed men from the Arunachal Pradesh side of the Assam-Arunachal border in Lakhimpur district creating fresh tension.

Official sources said a group of unidentified persons, heavily armed with guns and bow and arrows, attacked forest personnel engaged in plantation at Duluong in the Lakhimpur district. Security forces posted along the border rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The forces are maintaining a strict vigil in the area.

During the first week of April, tension had flared up along the inter-state border after Arunachal Pradesh’s attempt to build a community hall at Likabali in West Siang district bordering Assam’s Dhemaji was foiled by authorities. (PTI)
