JOWAI: Fortunately there is no air pollution in our state except in Umiam and Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi, informed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests cum Chairman of the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board, CP Marak during the celebration of the World Environment Days held at Khla Champa of Nongtalang village, West Jaintia Hills.
Meanwhile the Forest and Environment Minister also In-charge of Education, Lahkmen Rymbui said, “Needs and creed should be different as the world is advancing in every spheres of life.”
Rymbui urged every individual to be responsible for planet earth.
Special guest H.H Mohrmen, columnist and environmentalist informed the gathering that the world is in deep environment crisis and it is much more than climate changing.
“I try to avoid using plastic bottle and carry my own. I also try to use public transports in order to reduce emitting of carbon footprint produces from fossil fuel,” Mohrmen said.
He also asserted that the world should be worried about the extinction of thousand of species.
JM Pohsngap, who was the speaker of the programme said that our ancestors had the knowledge of forest conservations in the name of our sacred groves locally called as Law Kyntang, Khloo Blai. Therefore, Meghalaya still has more than 66 percents forest cover.
Around 2000 saplings were planted in the campus of Nongtalang College and its surroundings.
Distribution of prizes amongst the students was also held.
