SHILLONG: The Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase III which is funded under JNNURM will be further delayed.

Official sources on Thursday informed that the PHE department has sought extension till March 2013 for completion of the project.

The sources however informed that the PHE department is yet to send any official communiqué to MUDA (State Nodal Agency for JNNURM projects) seeking extension.

Even though the actual deadline to complete the project is June this year, the PHE had earlier sought an extension till September to complete the project during a joint monitoring committee meet chaired by Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to review the progress of the project last year.

Meanwhile, another government official stated that the project is likely to be delayed since progress of the work has been relatively slow due to various factors, one of them being delay in release of the second installment of funds for the project by the Union Ministry of Urban Development.

On the present status of the project, the official said, “The overall physical progress of the project is around 78.57 per cent.”
