Tripura opposes predetermined figure
Agartala: The country-wide BPL and Caste survey was kicked off at West Tripura district’s Sankhola area on Wednesday in presence of Secretary of RD Ministry BK Sinha and other state government officials.
The six-month-long exercise will be carried from June 30 to December 31 in the entire country, according to official sources. To make it a success, a workshop was organized at Prajna Bhavan on Tuesday.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the workshop while RD Minister Jitendra Chowdhury, the Secretary of RD Ministry, Chief Secretary SK Panda and Kumar Alok, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of RD department were present there.
The Chief Minister in his speech made it clear that the state government would not accept pre-determined BPL population.
He said that in the National Development Council (NDC) meeting it was assured that assured the Centre would focus on poor people during preparation of tenth and eleventh Five-Year plans.
The Centre, he said also underlined need to improvement of socio-economic condition of poor population but it did reverse. On the BPL survey, Chief Minister said that the state would not accept pre-determined BPL population as decided in the cabinet meeting. “We have also sent our view to other state governments to raise voice on the issue”, he said.
Chief Minister said, “Let the BPL survey is conducted properly and then the Planning Commission could fix it after due consultation with the state governments”.
Sarkar further appealed the people engaged in the work to conduct the survey in most accurate way so that actual picture could be achieved.
Top officials of administration and representatives of three-tier panchayat were also attended the programme.
Sources claimed, the BPL percentage could be more than that of last time since the family number have been increased in the state over the years.
