SHILLONG: A meeting between the Khasi Jaintia Butchers Welfare Association (KJBWA) and the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills was held on Friday to resolve the grievances faced by the association.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, advisor of the association, Dundee Cliff Khongsit said the DC has assured to take the issue of cattle smuggling and the fake health certificates seriously.
He added that cattle smuggling has led to high price of cattle and the association does not want to increase the price of beef also.
With cattle being smuggled along the international border areas, Khongsit urged the state government to take up the matter with the Union Government.
The association had decided to not procure any cattle from Khanapara, Ri-Bhoi from June 3 and shops have remained close from June 7.
