SHILLONG: The state government is keen to identify and explore ways and means to improve the growth trajectory and plug the revenue leakages in the state.
Informing this here on Friday, Meghalaya Revenue Minister Kyrmen Shylla said that the government is serious and concerned about the issue and is working towards identifying the loose ends and plugging the leakages.
Shylla’s comments come after the Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission, Nand Kishore Singh, recently expressed concern that the fiscal deficit of Meghalaya had risen far beyond the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) target of 3 per cent, and debt to the state gross domestic product (SGDP) above 30 per cent.
“We are trying to find out ways and means to stop the leakages and I believe we will be able to improve further,” he added.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya gets 80 per cent of its total revenue receipts (TRR) from the Centre and has sought Rs 82,815 crore from the 15th Finance Commission during the panel’s recent visit to the state.
