SHILLONG: The Congress on Saturday said both the UDP and NPP were indulging in speculation regarding Congress MLAs itching to cross over while asserting that the party is looking for an alliance to form the government in the state.
Talking to media persons here a day after the UDP said some Congress MLAs were in touch with the party to switch allegiance, senior leader and Congress MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh, said that both the parties were trying to create a big misconception.
“The Congress is not in any hurry to make any rash moves anywhere, “ Lyngdoh said.
According to Lyngdoh, the Congress right now is the most formidable opposition the state has ever had and will oppose any agenda of any political conglomerate which is going to put the state at a disadvantage.
“ We will be there when there is a requirement for the protection of our identity and when there is any move to question or dilute our status as STs,” she said.
“ Today being Khasi alone is not important and we have to make sure that no external forces try to divide us and we need to stick together,” she said while maintaining that the Congress would cover the back of all the smaller parties and will be by their side when the big parties try to strike at them.
Making it clear that the Congress is looking for an alliance to form the government, she added that the party is seeking an alternative to act as a bulwark against any agenda that would question the survival of the race.
