Students need to spread message of Majuli’s cohesiveness: CM

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has exhorted students to take forward the message of social cohesiveness of Majuli to the world.

Taking part in a felicitation programme of meritorious students of Majuli district on Sunday, Sonowal underlined the rich potential of Majuli, which is the largest river island in the world, and its art and culture.

“Students need to strive for knowledge and contribute in the development process of the state,” he said.

Stating positive mindset as an essential quality for overcoming challenges, Sonowal advised the students to work with honesty, integrity and hard work to achieve success in life.

“Science and technology have brought revolutionary changes in the world. The new generation has to engage in scientific discourse and develop their skills as well as the ability to cope with the changing scenario,” he said.

Altogether 226 students securing 75 per cent or above marks in the recently declared results of HSLC and Higher Secondary Examination were felicitated in the programme at the Kamalabari Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, an official statement here said.

Education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya also spoke on the occasion and urged the students to study hard with sincerity to be successful in life.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sonowal also attended Anuxuchita Jati Samaroh and Sati Radhika Diwas organised by Majuli District SC Students Union at Majuli College playground, Dariyapar.

Addressing the occasion, Sonowal said that the state government has taken up a number of welfare initiatives to ensure social and economic security of the scheduled caste people in the state.

He also informed that the state government would build a Memorial Park at Majuli in a bid to keep alive the ideals of Sati Radhika.
