SHILLONG: Healthcare services in the city took a hit on Monday as OPDs in most of the city hospitals and clinics were shut following a nationwide doctors’ strike called by the Indian Medical Association to express solidarity with the protesting doctors in Kolkata.
OPD services in most of the private hospitals and NEIGRIHMS were shut but emergency services remained functional in all the hospitals. The governmentowned Shillong civil hospital, however, remained functional on Monday.
The faculty and resident doctors of NEIGRIHMS ensured smooth running of routine and emergency services on Monday even as they expressed solidarity with the strike called by medical professional bodies, resident doctors association all over India on the day, a statement from the hospital said.
The institute’s authorities thanked the faculty and resident doctors for ensuring smooth running of the services, the statement said.
