GUWAHATI: The picturesque Buddhist monastery town of Tawang on India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh is faced with a serious problem of menacing stray dogs of Tawang breed that are keeping the residents on toes.
Residents of Tawang township are facing threat of ever increasing number of menacing stray dogs. In a recent case, a stray dog ripped off an ear of a child near old circuit house. Because of the threat from stray dogs, people are unable to go for their morning and evening walks while children and old people are facing more problems.
The situation has come to such a pass that, Deputy Commissioner of Tawang, Sang Phuntsok chaired a meeting with representatives of the Army, ITBP, SSB, government officials and NGOs like Monpa Mimang Tshogpa, Tangyom Tsokpa, EPS, MBPCs, The Humanity Group, TMEs, Secretary Tawang Monastery, AMSU, ATDSU and public leaders for finding a solution to this menace of stray dogs.
The meeting on Wednesday took several decisions raging from seeking sponsorship/donations for taking care of stray dogs to launching publicity campaigns in other districts for adoption of Tawang breed dogs.
The meeting decided for temporary segregation of stray dogs at proposed dairy farm site of Veterinary Department near Temilo while sterilization to continue.
Some other resolutions of the meeting included encouraging willing adoption of stray dogs, setting up enclosures for stray dogs at village/block level, food waste by Army/Paramilitary langars and hotels shall be channelized for mass dog kennel.
